World needs your culture, says Pope to indigenous Mexicans

AFP4983441_ArticoloToday’s world needed indigenous Mexican’s ancient values and traditions said Pope Francis to the population of the state of Chiapas in southern Mexico.

“In a systematic and organized way” indigenous culture had been misunderstood and excluded from the society. “Some have considered your values, culture and traditions to be inferior,” while there were some others who consider it as “intoxicated by power, money and market trends, have stolen your lands or contaminated them,” the Pope said while he celebrated Mass for the largely indigenous population of the state of Chiapas in southern Mexico.

Pope on the other hand stressed that the indigenous people teach the world how to interact harmoniously with the nature. The Holy Father said that they respect the nature as a “source of food, a common home and an altar of human sharing.”
