“Vatileaks”: Monsignor was threatened to give the documents

395112-1gVallejo Balda, the Monsignor at the center of the “Vatileaks” trial disclosed that he was threatened and had forced to give the confidential documents to the two Italian reporters.

While questioned by his co-defendants’ lawyers, Spanish Mgr Lucio Vallejo Balda cited a Whatsapp conversation in which Francesca Chaouqui told him that “I will destroy you in all the newspapers and you know that I can do it.”

Vallejo Balda decided to give the information since he felt threatened. “Delivering those documents was the only way to pay for my freedom,” the Monsignor said in the court. He told that he had no other choice. He acknowledged that he had not received any direct threats from the journalists Gianluigi Nuzzi and Emiliano Fittipaldi.
