A new Catholic television station, TV Maria, had its official launch in the Philippines. The channel had its first live broadcast on 14 August 14, from its headquarters in the Caritas compound located in Pandacan, Manila. Luís Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, Manila Archbishop, inaugurated the broadcast.
The Archbishop, in his inaugural address said that the new channel is not “about ratings, publicity, or image-building,” but an apostolate aimed at making God’s work known. “This is our mission. Through us, His Church, God talks to us … God is a God of communication. God is not self-absorbed. He revealed Himself to us … And we as Church continues what God has started. The ancient Christians created paintings and murals depicting scenes from the Bible. They did this in order to educate others on the faith … Using today’s technology, TV María is doing the same,” he added..
