“Today, in the Middle East and in other parts of the world, Christians are being persecuted”, Pope told while addressing the thousands of believers gathered in St. Peter’s Square. “May the beatification of martyred Syriac Bishop Flavien-Michel Malke fill them with consolation, courage and hope”, adds Pope.
There are more martyrs (today) than there were in the first centuries of Christianity, Pope speak to people in the square deviating from his prepared text. Pope told the people that martyrs like the beatified Bishop encourages us to be firm in our faith..
