Holy Thursday marks the commemoration of the day on which the God decided to live with his on people through the institution of Eucharist. He instituted the sacrament of priesthood with the institution of the Eucharist as the true body and blood of Jesus Christ.
The Christ in the Last Supper offered himself as the sacrificial lamb. By offering himself, the Christ was teaching every ordained priest to follow the same sacrifice in the exact way. The day become significant with another factor. It was on that day Jesus bid farewell to his followers and prophesied that one of his followers would betray him.
Holy Thursday was also known as the Maundy Thursday. The Latin word Maundy meant “command.” In a sense, Maundy Thursday meant the command Jesus gave to his disciples, to love and serve another.
This Thursday also invites us to remember the humility of God. Jesus, even though he was the son of a God, he humbled himself by washing the foot of his disciples.
