Security measures tightens at Lourdes

In connection with a series of terrorist attacks in France, security measures had been tightened at Lourdes for the upcoming feast of the Assumption.

As part of ensuring precaution against terrorist attack, the authorities had cancelled the Mass and procession on next Monday, said the prefect of the Pyrénées region, Beatrice Lagarde. Normally the Mass would be attended by 25,000 people, he added.

Several events on the feast day had been modified. Instead of holding procession in the town, this year it would be held within the site. 250 security staffs including police, paramilitary offices and a bomb disposal unit would be there in the city for the next two weeks. Lagarde continued.
