Prayer expecting something in return is like doing business, says Pope Francis

ANSA947970_LancioGrandePrayer doesn’t mean to obtain from God whatever is useful to us, but rather it is giving everything to the merciful hands of the Father, said Pope Francis.

The Pope told about prayer, while he was addressing the Padre Pio Prayer Groups, workers of the Home for the Relief of Suffering private hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, and the faithful of the Diocese of Manfredonia-Vieste-San Giovanni Rotondo.

The Holy Father exhorted the prayer group members that prayer is not “a good practice to get some peace of heart” nor a “means to obtain from God what is useful to us.” He compared praying to God for obtaining certain objects as taking an aspirin to feel better or as doing a business to obtain something in return.
