Pope Francis spent some time in silent prayer before the cross built in memory of those people who crossed the frontier between Mexico and the United States. He blessed the cross, clasped his hands and prayed with bowed heads.
Pope also blessed small three crosses which were laying at the foot of the large cross. Those crosses were to go to the dioceses of El Paso, Ciudad Juarez and Las Cruces, New Mexico. He left a banquet of flowers on a table infront of the cross and waved at the people gathered to see him.
Cardinal Seán O’Malley of Boston, one of several US bishops at the Pope’s Mass in Ciudad Juarez said that the brief moment that the Pope spent at the foot of the cross was “a great sign of hope for families separated and suffering”.
