During his way back from Mexico, Pope Francis reminded the act of Pope Paul VI in the 1960s to allow nuns in the Congo to take contraceptives for avoiding pregnancy during rape. “Avoiding a pregnancy under such circumstances is not an absolute evil”, he said.

Pope Francis clearly ruled out abortion as a solution to Zika virus. “Abortion is never the lesser evil, it’s a crime,” Pope Francis said. He opined that the traditional Catholic Principle of ‘lesser of two evils’ could be applied in this situation.
