Pope Francis to visit Assisi again

Vatican City: Pope Francis to make his second visit to Assisi in September. This time, the Pope’s  visit to the country purely mean to participate in an interreligious summit for peace where he would pray along with major Islamic and Orthodox leaders.

The scheduled date for the Holy Father’s visit falls on September 20, which marks the 30th anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Peace that St. John Paul II summoned in Assisi 1986.

The interreligious meeting organized by the Sant’Egidio community started in 1986. Usually, it used to be held at different locations. This year it falls in Assisi.

Earlier this month, on August 4, the Pope was in Assisi to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the “perdono” indulgence. After becoming the Pope, it was in Oct. 4, 2013 that Pope Francis had first visited Assisi.
