One of the producers Spotlight, the movie which won the Oscar for best picture, used his acceptance speech to remind Pope Francis and the Vatican to protect children from abuse and to “restore the faith”.
Producer Michael Sugar said in his speech that Spotlight “gave a voice to survivors (of abuse). This Oscar amplifies that voice. We hope will become a choir that will resonate all the way to the Vatican. Pope Francis, it’s time to protect the children and restore the faith.”
The film tells the story of the Boston Globe’s investigation into the deception of clerical abuse in the Archdiocese of Boston.
