Pope Francis had invited 21 Syrian refugees to his residence in Casa Santa Marta and had lunch with them. He spent time with them by exchanging gifts, toys and drawings with the children.
The Syrian families were brought to Rome by the Pope during his visit to Lesbos, Greece in April. While having the meal, “both adults and children had an opportunity to speak with Pope Francis about the beginning of their lives in Italy,” detailed a communiqué from the Vatican.
The Holy Father during his mingling with the refugee children presented them with toys and gifts and the children in return gifted the Pope a collection of their drawings.
