Pope expresses condolences over the death of former UN Secretary-General

AFP4987803_ArticoloPope Francis expressed his condolences on hearing the death of the former United Nations Secretary-General, Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

In the telegram sent by the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, it was said that Pope Francis was saddened to hear the news of Mr. Boutros-Ghali’s death. He had extended Pope Francis’ heartfelt condolences to current Secretary -General Ban Ki-moon and to all those at the United Nations Organization.

“Recalling Mr. Boutros-Ghali’s generous service to his country and to the international community, His Holiness offers the assurance of his prayers for the late Secretary-General’s eternal rest, and he invokes the divine blessings of peace and strength upon the members of his family and all who mourn his loss,” the telegram carried these words of Pope.

Mr. Boutros-Ghali who died at the age of 93 had served as the UN Secretary-General from 1 January 1992 – 31 December 1996.
