“More than in the early days, many are persecuted, killed, driven out, despoiled, only because they are Christians”, Pope Francis said during the celebration of Monday morning mass in the chapel of the Santa Marta residence.
During the homily Pope reminded about the persecutions that are happening towards the Christian community and of the silence of the powerful world. “Dear brothers and sisters, there is no Christianity without persecution. Remember the last of the Beatitudes: when they bring you into the synagogues, and persecute you, revile you, this is the fate of a Christian”, Pope said during the mass. Pope also observed that many powerful nations, who could stop the sufferings of the poor, remain silent invigilators of persecution.
Pope recalled that many Christians are killed by terrorists only because they are Christians. Pope concluded his message by praying “May the Lord give us full understanding to know the mystery of God who is in Christ”..
