Pope commissions Missionaries of Mercy

Priests-missionaries-of-mercy-1As announced earlier, Pope Francis commissioned hundreds of “Missionaries of Mercy” during Mass on Ash Wednesday at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

Pope Francis had described about the missionaries of mercy in his Bull announcing the Jubilee Year of Mercy that they “would be a sign of the Church’s maternal solicitude for the People of God, enabling them to enter the profound richness of this mystery so fundamental to the faith.” He continued by saying that they would be the “living signs of the Father’s readiness to welcome those in search of his pardon.”

The missionaries assigned by Pope Francis during the Year of Mercy had special powers to forgive those sins which could only be pardoned by the Holy See. They were nominated by their bishops or religious superiors. They would avail themselves for bishops to summon to their dioceses to preach about mercy and hear confessions.
