The Year of Mercy would be incomplete without the Holy Door. Every Cathedrals and churches around the world have opened doors allowing the Catholics to pass through it and to gain indulgence. But the Diocese of Wrexham had taken a step extra. They had introduced a portable Door of Mercy to travel the diocese.
“The Portable Door of Mercy provides that opportunity for those who might not be able to go on pilgrimage to the cathedral of our diocese and pass through the door,” said Bishop Peter Brignall of Wrexham. “It allows for those who are less able and who are sick to pass through and receive the Mercy of the Father,” he continued.
The door would be carried to different deaneries around the diocese on each Saturday in Lent. The main intention behind the creation of the portable door was that the diocese had an ageing population and so many were unable to make a journey to the cathedral.
