Jesuits receive Fr.  Arturo Sosa Abascal as its new leader

Vatican City: Fr Arturo Sosa Abascal was elected as the new superior general of the Society of Jesus. Thus he became the 30th successor of St Ignatius of Loyola, the founder and leader of Jesuit order.

Fr Arturo Sosa Abascal’s title has some specialties. He becomes the Jesuit’s first non-European and also the first superior general to be elected under a Jesuit Pope.

The election was conducted in Rome today.

The Venezuelan priest Arturo Sosa Abascal was born in Caracas on November 12, 1948. He has a doctorate in Political Science from the Universidad Central de Venezuela and has mastery over languages like Spanish, Italian and English.
