Yoga meant ‘union’. One of the purpose of Yoga is to achieve ‘samadhi’, a Sanskrit word which means union with the divine one. Samadhi at death meant salvation. According to Acts 4:12 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” This signify that whatever exercise or meditation you do, you would not be saved unless you call upon the mighty name of Jesus. “He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit” [Titus 3:5].
By doing yoga one deny the truth of the Gospel and reject the salvific works of the Cross on the Calvary. When one practice yoga, you automatically accept the doctrines behind it. One could not partially accept it and partially reject it. Since, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.” [Mat 6:24].
Some practices yoga saying it is good for body and mind. In the book of Genesis, the woman ate the fruit since it appeared good for eating and was pleasing to the eye. But it was against the will of God. Similarly, only some one with discernment from the Holy Spirit could find the truth behind good and evilness of a thing. Other than God and the Father there exist more than one supernatural. All the supernaturals are not divine.
Some might do yoga saying, “I am just doing it as an exercise. I will be following Jesus and worshipping Him. I know He is the way.” But by doing different types of posters in yoga one actually symbolize a Hindu God. People sit or stand or lay down as one of their Gods like Siva or Kali. Remember, “Your body is the temple of Holy Spirit” [1 Corinthians 6:19].
On October 15, 1989, Cardinal Ratzinger (who became Pope Benedict XVI) from Vatican sent a letter to the Bishop’s saying that eastern meditations like yoga, zen etc were wrong. In Engalnd almost every parishes under the Catholic Church banned teaching of yoga from their church hall. Vatican’s chief exorcist Fr. Gabriel Amorth had made the following the statement, “Practising yoga is Satanic, it leads to evil just like reading Harry Potter.”
If any had ever practiced yoga, remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on Cross at the altar of Calvary. The precious blood on the cross still pleads for us before the throne of God.
