Iron Maiden pay tribute to Oscar Romero

PA-24063878-800x500The English heavy metal band, Iron Maiden paid tribute to Blessed Oscar Romero during the band’s stop in El Salvador on their current world tour.

The band’s drummer Nicko McBrain performed before 9000 cheering crowds by wearing a t-shirt featuring an image of the Blessed priest with the slogan, “Saint Romero of the Americas,” in a concert at the Estadio Jorge Magico Gonzalez in San Salvador.

Before the concert, McBrain and his bandmate, guitarist Janick Gers, had visited Blessed Romero’s tomb in the Crypt of San Salvador Metropolitan Cathedral.

Blessed Oscar Romero was assassinated on March 24, 1980, while celebrating Mass in a hospital chapel in san Salvador. He raised voice against poverty, social injustice, assassinations and torture. He was beatified in San Salvador on May 23 last year.
