The Indonesia bishops’ conference called on Catholic groups and lay people involved in political parties to unite their efforts in order to re-strengthen Christian values. Archbishop Vincentius Sensi Potokota of Ende, chairman of the bishops’ laity commission said, “It’s important to consolidate. We must work together to achieve the common good.”
While speaking to a group of 200 politicians and academics from different Catholic groups, the Archbishop recollected that in the previous years Catholics involved in politics were unable to unite. It led to a situation where the Catholic ideal of creating a common welfare could not achieve.
