An Indian priest, Fr. Dominic Savio, pursuing his studies in Rome and Ireland was robbed on knifepoint and was wounded by knife on his hands and neck in Laois. Fr. Savio, who had arrived in Ireland just two weeks ago to provide clerical cover for two local priests, as both of them were having their annual parish pilgrimage to Lourdes.
As per the reports, when Fr. Savio opened the door at 11.30 pm, the burglars rushed in and violently pushed him back, put him on knife-point and robbed. One of the robbers grabbed the priest by the neck, pressing the knife onto his throat, forcing him move upstairs to search for money.
Monsignor John Byrne commented on the incident as ‘truly shocking’. Fr. Savio, though terrorized initially, didn’t let his fear overcome him, instead celebrated the Mass next morning.
