His wife was killed in Paris blast: Yet he won’t hate the murderers!

paris-attacks-111415It is really difficult not to hate the murderers of one’s dearest life partner. And when one thinks the way the wife of Antoine Leiris was killed, one will wonder how he can forgive the assailants. The notorious bomb blast at Paris!

Nonetheless, Antoine Leiris has learned to forgive – definitely by some celestial grace! “You will not have my hatred!” that was what Leiris scribbled on his facebook page. The message which was posted on November 16th reads that he would not give the attackers “the gift of hating you”. He also writes that he would not allow his 17-month-old son to grow up with hatred toward them either.

Thus reads his message: “Friday night, you stole an exceptional life – the love of my life, the mother of my son – but you’re not going to have my hatred. I don’t know who you are and I don’t want to know, you are dead souls. If this God you’re blindly killing for made us in his image, every bullet in my wife’s body will have been a wound in his heart…

So, no, I’m not going to give you the gift of hating you. You were really looking for it, but to respond to hatred with anger would be giving in to same ignorance that made you who you are. You want me to be afraid, to look at my fellow citizens with a wary eye, to sacrifice my freedom for security. You lost.

I saw her this morning. Finally, after nights and days of waiting. She was just as beautiful as when she left that Friday evening, as beautiful as when I fell madly in love with her more than 12 years ago. Of course I’m devastated with grief, I’ll concede you that small victory, but it won’t last long. I know that she will accompany us every day and we’ll see each other again in that paradise of free love that you have no access to.

There’s just two of us, my son and me, but we’re stronger than all the armies in the world. Moreover, I don’t have any more time to spend on you, I’ve got to go get Melvil who’s waking up from his nap. He’s hardly 17 months old. He’ll have his afternoon snack like always, then we’re going to play like we do every day, and for his whole life, this little boy will be an affront to you because he’s free and happy. Because no, you’re not going to have his hatred either.”
