“Jesus was very small, just like some of you,” Pope Francis said to the child patients admitted in Federico Gomez Pediatric hospital in Mexico City, they listened to him with wide-opened eyes. The Pope, excited to meet the kids, narrated to them stories of Jesus. Then he gifted them with rosaries and prayed with them.
The Holy Father then went on to describe the event of the presentation of Jesus from the Scriptures. He reflected on the attitude of Simeon who was “very moved and filled with joy and gratitude.” He introduced Simeon to the children as the ‘uncle’ who teaches the attitudes of gratitude and blessing. He then thanked God of the opportunity to be with the kids to see their smiles and their faces.
The Pontiff then told the kids about the Marian apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the great healing she performed for the Indian Juan Deigo. “We have Mary as our Mother” the Pope said, “so let us ask her to give us the gift of her son, Jesus. Let us close our eyes and ask her to give us what our hearts seek today, and then let us pray together.”
