Four sisters killed in attack on Missionaries of Charity’s nursing home

Missionaries_of_Charity_credit_Blazl_via_Flickr_CC_BY_NC_ND_20_CNA_6_23_15 (1)At least 16 people were killed after two gunmen attacked a Missionaries of Charity convent and nursing home for elderly and disabled persons in Aden, the provisional capital of Yemen, on Friday.

Among the deceased, four victims were sisters of the Missionaries of Charity, the community founded by Blessed Mother Theresa. They were identified as Sr. Anselm from India, Sr. Margherite from Rwanda, Sr. Reginette from Rwanda, and Sr. Judith from Kenya. They were identified by the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia.

Volunteers at the home were the other deceased people. Among them five were Ethiopian and others were Yemenis. The convent superior and elderly and disabled persons living at the community were unharmed. There were 80 inmates residing in the nursing home.

So far no group had claimed responsibility for the attack made on the Missionaries of Charity.
