Mother Angelica, the foundress of the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), world’s largest Catholic Television, is reported to be in a ‘delicate’ condition. This was revealed in a tweet on Monday from EWTN. Prayers have been requested for her good health. She is 92.
A posting on the official website of the order in which Mother Angelica is a member reads: “Mother’s condition remains delicate and she receives devoted care day and night by her sisters and nurses. In God’s providence, she was able to receive the special jubilee grace of passing through the Door of Mercy shortly after its opening for the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Although she is most often sleeping, from time to time mother will give a radiant smile. There is no doubt that her heart must be ‘on things above.’”
Early this month, on 12th February, Pope Francis had sent his greetings to the Mother saying “To Mother Angelica with my blessing and I ask you to pray for me; I need it. God bless you, Mother Angelica.”
Mother Angelica, on April 20, 1923, in Canton, Ohio, entered the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, a Franciscan religious order for women in 1944. She founded a new house for the order in 1962 in Irondale, Alabama. It was here EWTN is headquartered. Mother Angelica hosted shows on EWTN until she suffered a stroke in 2001. She is a recipient of the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice.
