Pope Francis today said that even though divorces and remarriages are against Christian sacrament of marriage, Catholic Church, like a truly loving mother, will welcome the divorcees and those who come forward to remarriages. “Her gaze always draws from a mother’s heart, which, animated by the Holy Spirit, always looks for the good and the salvation of people” the Pontiff said. He was speaking to the general audience in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall.
Pope added that Catholic Church, as Mother, feels the duty to discern the situation for the sake of truth. He added that late Pope St. John Paul II has also expressed this in his Apostolic Exhortation Familiaris Consortio. Pope Benedict XVI has also spoken on this issue, calling for careful discernment and wise pastoral care, knowing that there are no ‘simple recipe’ during his address to the Seventh World Meeting of Families in Milan, June 2, 2012.
