The Holy Father said that the message of the encyclical, “Deus Caritas Est,” meaning “God is love” remains timely as the Jubilee Year is being reflected on God’s endless love. “The entire history of the Church is also a history of charity. It is a story of the love received from God, to be carried to the world,” the Pope said.
Charity has to be shared, the Pope continued. It does not mean “simply almsgiving to ease one’s conscience,” whereas, “loving attentiveness towards the other which considers the other as one with himself and desires to share friendship with God,” the Holy Father told the participants.
