Catholic church, convent attacked and looted in Bangladesh

1454937276A Catholic parish church and a convent in the Khulna diocese which lies in the southwestern Bangladesh were attacked, damaged and looted.

About 15 masked armed men entered into the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its adjacent Catechist Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary convent. They looted 350,000 taka (US$ 4,487) from the priest’s residence, 300,000 taka (US$ 3,846) from the convent. Other than money, they had taken phones and other valuables too.

The Muslim-majority Bangladesh had witnessed a series of extremists attack on religious minorities. However Father Arun A. Halsona, the parish priest who was in Dhaka when the attack took place refused to attribute any religious motive to the incident.
