Vatican City: By practicing the corporal works of mercy like welcoming a stranger, one actually welcomes Christ in him. In as sense we are also helping the person to maintain his dignity as a human, said Pope Francis on Wednesday.

“These works, in fact, make evident that Christians are not tired and lazy in waiting for the final encounter with the Lord, but every day go out, recognizing his face in the many people asking for help.” The Pope stated.

Clothing the naked is not fully condensed with giving cloth to the one who does not have any. It also includes helping the victims of human trafficking and those trapped in any physical abuses. Helping those who do not have a job, a house, a just wage or a person discriminated in the name of the religion or race into which he was born could also be incorporated into the corporal works of mercy. The Pope added.

Finally Pope advised the faithful “do not fall into the trap of closing in on ourselves, indifferent to the needs of brothers and worried only about our own interests.”
