Brother Roger, founder of Taizé community, remembered

brother rogerPope Francis specially remembered Brother Roger Schütz, the founder of the Taizé community and sent a message to the Taizé community. In his message, Pope lauded Brother Roger, as “a tireless witness of the gospel of peace and reconciliation.”

Holy Father’s message came on the occasion of three anniversaries: the 75th anniversary of its foundation; the 100th anniversary of Brother Roger’s birth and the 10thanniversary of his death. Brother Roger was stabbed to death by a mentally ill woman during an evening prayer service in 2005.

Brother Roger Schütz founded the Taizé community in 1940. The Taizé community is an ecumenical monastic group composed of over a hundred brothers from Protestant and Catholic traditions..
