“Be like Leonardo DiCaprio,” says a Catholic nun

Leonardo DiCaprioSister Aloha Vergara of the Handmaid of the House of God congregation asked the Catholics to be like Leonardo DiCaprio.

DiCaprio’s speech “reflects the people and the churches’ position on the protection of the environment,” the nun said. In the Oscar floor DiCaprio said that climate change is real and it is because of the “politics of greed.”

Adding to the words spoken by the nun, Redemptorist Brother Ciriaco Santiago, convener of an anti-mining group in Manila, asked the candidates participating in May national elections to take DiCaprio’s position and “act upon people’s concrete and legitimate demands.”

“We need to stand to uphold the protection of all creation,” Sister Vergara said in a press conference where church and environmental activists denounced alleged human rights violations in a mining town in the northern Philippines.
