Father Francisco Acevedo is 100 years old. The oldest priest in the Diocese of Malaga, Spain believes his mission in the world is not yet over. He keeps fighting Satan. “I still have to resist the devil, but it’s not easy. The devil does not want there to be holy priests, and it’s dangerous to not take this seriously,” the centenarian priest said.
Father Acevedo, living in residence at St. Patrick’s parish, says he does not have any “tricks” to such a long life. He has been leading a normal life like everyone else. “Seek God alone” is the advice this experienced priest has to give to seminarians and young priests.
Having understood the value of prayer in leading Christian life, Father Acevedo advises to surrender everything to God, who is “a permanent guard.” About those who see prayer time as taking away from other activities, he says, “they do not know what it means to be Christian. They might have heard something about him, but they do not know Jesus. If they knew him, they would seek.”
