Here is a golden rule for all confessors in the Catholic Church. Pope Francis, at the onset of Lenten season, stated that priests who are good confessors must recognize their own sins in order to forgive and comfort penitents.
“The confessional is for forgiveness” the Pope said as he celebrated the Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica with Capuchin Franciscan friars from around the world. “Even if priests cannot give absolution in some cases, please, do not beat up on the penitent” the Pope added.
People comes to the confessional is seeking comfort, pardon, peace in his soul. “Let him find a father who embraces him and says, ‘God loves you,’ the Holy Father said. He stressed that a good confessor makes the penitent feel that God really does.
